Can You Wash a GhostBed Mattress Cover?

For GhostBed mattresses with the removable plush cover described in GhostBed's current care guidance, GhostBed instructs owners to unzip the cover and machine wash it. The older version of this Texan Mattress article said to spot clean or professionally dry clean every GhostBed mattress cover and never use a washing machine. That blanket instruction is no longer consistent with GhostBed's current published care information.

However, GhostBed has sold multiple mattresses, protectors and toppers with different cover constructions over time. Use the sewn care label and instructions for your exact model as the final authority. Do not assume a protector, topper cover and mattress cover all use the same washing or drying method.

How to Clean a Removable GhostBed Mattress Cover

  1. Check the care label first. Confirm that the cover on your exact GhostBed model is removable and machine washable.
  2. Remove sheets and bedding. Vacuum loose dust and debris from the mattress surface before removing the cover.
  3. Unzip the removable cover carefully. Avoid pulling or stretching the fabric around the zipper.
  4. Machine wash only if your model instructions allow it. GhostBed's current mattress-care article specifically directs owners to remove the plush cover and put it in the washing machine.
  5. Follow the label for detergent, water temperature and drying. Do not invent a high-heat drying routine if the care label does not authorize one.
  6. Make sure the cover is fully dry before reinstalling it. Trapping moisture against foam can create odor and other problems.

Can You Wash the GhostBed Mattress Foam?

No. Do not put the foam mattress itself in a washing machine or saturate it with water. GhostBed's current mattress-cleaning guidance recommends vacuuming the mattress and spot-cleaning stains rather than soaking the foam.

If the foam gets wet, use as little liquid as practical during spot cleaning and allow the area to dry completely before making the bed again.

Is a GhostBed Mattress Cover the Same as the GhostProtector?

No. The removable mattress cover, the separate GhostProtector waterproof mattress protector and the cover supplied with some GhostBed toppers are different products.

GhostBed currently says the GhostProtector should be washed in cold water with a gentle detergent without bleach or bleach alternatives, then air dried or dried on low heat with other linens. GhostBed's current memory-foam topper uses a separate removable machine-washable cover and has its own care instructions.

That is why this page no longer recommends one universal cleaning method for everything marketed as a GhostBed “cover.”

Should You Dry Clean a GhostBed Mattress Cover?

Do not automatically dry clean it. The old Texan Mattress article recommended professional dry cleaning, but GhostBed's current mattress-care guidance describes machine washing the removable mattress cover. Follow the care label on your exact item before choosing dry cleaning or another method.

What If the Cover Has a Stain?

If the care label allows machine washing, treat the cover according to those instructions. For the foam underneath, GhostBed recommends spot cleaning rather than soaking the mattress. Avoid bleach or ammonia on memory foam, and do not reinstall a damp cover over the mattress.

Can Texan Mattress Replace a GhostBed Cover?

Texan Mattress does not currently have active GhostBed products in its Shopify catalog and does not advertise replacement GhostBed covers for all models. If you need a replacement cover for an older GhostBed, contact GhostBed with the exact mattress model and purchase information to ask about current replacement-part availability.

GhostBed Cover Cleaning FAQs

Can I put my GhostBed mattress cover in the washing machine?

GhostBed's current mattress-care article says its removable plush mattress cover can be unzipped and machine washed. Check the care label for your exact model because older or different GhostBed products may use different materials.

Can I put the GhostBed foam mattress in the washer?

No. The mattress foam should not be submerged or machine washed. Vacuum and spot clean the foam as needed, then let it dry fully.

Can I put a GhostBed cover in the dryer?

Drying instructions depend on the exact cover. Check its care label. GhostBed's separate GhostProtector and topper covers have their own low-heat or air-dry instructions, which should not automatically be applied to every mattress cover.

Should I use bleach?

Avoid bleach unless the exact care label specifically permits it. GhostBed's current GhostProtector instructions specifically say to use gentle detergent without bleach or bleach alternatives.

How often should I clean the mattress?

Vacuum and spot clean based on use, spills and your household needs. A washable mattress protector can reduce how often the mattress cover itself needs deeper cleaning.

Does Texan Mattress still sell GhostBed?

No active GhostBed products are currently listed in the Texan Mattress Shopify catalog. This article is maintained as a legacy care resource for existing GhostBed owners.
